SPACESHIP EARTH

"We travel together, passengers on a little spaceship, dependent upon its vulnerable reserves of air and soil, all committed for our safety to its security and peace; preserved from annihilation only by the care, the work, and, I will say, the love we give our fragile craft. We cannot maintain it half fortunate, half miserable, half confident, half despairing, half slave to the ancient enemies of man, half free in a liberation of resources undreamed of until this day. No craft, no crew can travel safely with such vast contradictions. On their resolution depends the survival of us all."

'KAITIAKI MOANA' GLENN EDNEY, MARINE BIOLOGIST & AUTHOR OF 'THE OCEAN IS ALIVE'

GLENN & JANEY of 'OCEAN SPIRIT'

Extraordinary thanks to Glenn Edney of Tutukaka, New Zealand for his brilliant contributions to enhancing our understanding of Mother Ocean as well as for being kaitiaki moana* par excellence! This show is the first in an on-going series of dialogues we are sharing; here we focus on the nature of water which is in itself a life-form! Glenn is a highly (but not over-) educated broad-band-thinking mind who I would say is one of the most aware, conscious, informed and concerned people I have had the pleasure to communicate with in recent  years.

Glenn and his partner Janey ran a whale-encounter enterprise in Tonga for several years before heeding the call to duty to return to the land, literally, of his fellow homo sapiens to educate and inspire them to see that they are an integral part of life herself and Mother Earth/Ocean...not separate from them.

"ULTIMATE SEA-LIFE DREAMING" by Jeff Phillips
Here is an excerpt from the prologue to The Ocean is Alive in which Glenn is describing a very powerful encounter with a humpback whale and her calf:

"As I float on the surface, fully immersed in her energetic field, I feel the strangest sensation, as if I’m being entered through every pore of my skin. I feel her presence within me, filling my senses with her being. There’s a moment when I contemplate resisting; a momentary fear of the unknown perhaps, but there’s no sense of danger. I close my eyes, open my arms, my whole being to her internal gaze. Everything outside this connection fades; I hardly feel the chill of the water against my bare skin. I’m aware of myself but can no longer distinguish a clear separation between us. I recognize my own thoughts, feelings and emotions but also experience her emotional being as my own...

I start to feel a sense of expansiveness, as if I’m stretching out through the water like a wave, but with the same feeling of extended consciousness and connection that comes when the mind reaches a deep level of stillness during meditation. There’s another quality to this sensation, some deeper meaning, but I can’t grasp what it is. I feel her probing me, looking for understanding and somehow I sense that I do understand what it is she’s trying to show me. I can’t touch it yet, it’s lying just out of reach, but I know it’s there. Maybe she feels this too because the intensity of her probing diminishes and takes on a lighter feel...
It feels like she’s giving me a guided tour of her inner being but I’m aware that I’m only skimming the surface. There’s so much more to see, if only I knew how. It doesn’t feel as if she’s hiding anything from me, just that I’m not capable of seeing it. But I also get the sense that she’s more than capable of blocking my access to her if she chooses. She has chosen to communicate with me in this way and it is very much on her terms."

Another great and thought-provoking dialogue, the second in our on-going series about Mother Ocean, who she is, who her family is, how we are hurting her/them...and how we might live in greater harmony with mitakuye oyasin at every level.

"The Ocean reaches out to us, drawing us into her mystery, thrilling our bodies with her sensual caress, feeding our soulful search for life’s meaning. For the longest time we have held the mysterious depths of the Ocean as a living testament to the unknowable, allowing us the freedom to imagine, to speculate without limit, life’s possibilities. From her depths we conjured monsters to feed our fear and test our courage. We looked upon her limitless horizon as a call to adventure and exploration. We used her body to enrich our own, both physically and spiritually. We needed her to be alive, limitless and sentient so we could explore our own sentience."
